The Neef River Recreation Park will be constructed in a section of river that was channelized during the mid-1900s. The project will provide a more natural riparian setting, additional plants and improved fish habitat. Features will include in-river drops, chutes and boulder obstacles suitable for beginning and intermediate boaters. Pedestrians will enjoy enhanced access to the river and seating areas. Several shared amenities will also benefit the adjacent Esther Simplot Park, including roads, parking lots, pathways and a shelter/changing area.Boise Mayor David Bieter and the City Council have allocated $750,000 for the park. Harvey and Margo Neef have pledged $1 million for the park in honor of their son, Ray Neef, MD, a kayaker who died in a boating accident. An additional $400,000 in contributions and pledges has been raised from individual donors.

Upon completion, Boise Parks & Recreation will maintain the park. For information about design and construction of the park, please contact Wendy Larimore at 384-4060, ext. 324

Previous projects include the Boise State Indoor Practice Facility, the Royal Plaza, Idaho Water Center, the Flying Wye, Roaring Springs Water Park, the Grove Hotel and Event Center, and many more fast-track, complex projects. Among others, McAlvain is currently working on the East ParkCenter River Crossing, Idaho State Capitol Wings Expansion, and Boise State Turf Replacement Project.
