{gallery}snotel.png{/gallery}Snotel forecasts, water outlook, snotel snow reports go off line. The message on the NRCS site:

"Because of security concerns raised by our national office, the web page you are trying to access will be down until the concerns have been addressed. We are trying to address these security issues by January 6th. However, some web pages may be down as long as January 20th. We will do our best to have the water supply outlook reports available by January 6th.

It seems the US government is concerned

that ski-based terrorists might be able to invade remote snotel sites. It is more likely the data servers are  vulnareble to attacks from non-skiing hackers. Most NRCS data will be offline at least until Jan 6. Until then the kayak idaho snow graphs and predicitions wil be off line as well. Kayak Idaho is using several scripts to pull data from NRCS http sites rather than the web norm of  a data service.

The Kayak Idaho Lack of Snow Advisory System (LSAS) is currently at Orange. Most of the sites in the central Idaho mountains are between 40 and 60% of normal. The Owyhee desert below 40%.

One of the few NRCS services still available to KI is the daily Snow Water Equivalent, a current state, rather than prediction or model.
